Austin is a fourteen-year-old boy from Zebulon. Austin suffers from a Cerebral hemorrhage which has left him immobile and requiring constant care. Austin loves to swim and be in the water but because of him being wheelchair bound, it is extremely difficult. Austin’s family requested a lift that would allow Austin to enjoy his family’s hot tub.

Emily is a nineteen-year-old young lady from Holly Springs. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor at a very young age. In addition, Emily also battles epilepsy, strokes, Crohn's disease and radiation vasculitis.

Faith's NYC Trip

Faith is a seventeen-year-old girl from Charlotte. Faith has been battling cystic fibrosis her entire life. Her disease has led to severe lung disease leaving her dependent on oxygen at night and after vigorous activity. She will likely require a lung transplant in the future.

Jessica's New iPad

Jessica is a 24-year-old young adult from Carolina Beach who one day came into the hospital and was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. She had her gall bladder removed but that didn't help. She came back in and began to have vision, hearing and mobility issues. She has had seizures, aspirated and went to the ICU and is currently on her third inpatient admission in the critical care unit. Jessica has been diagnosed with the rarest of Guillain Barre Syndrome known as AMSAN. She has permanent nerve damage and is currently paralyzed from the neck down and on ventilation.

Mariela's Birthday Party

Mariela is a five-year-old girl from Raleigh. She was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia six months prior. Her chemotherapy treatment has induced heart failure as well. Sadly, Mariela was not expected to survive more than a few months. She had a birthday coming up and her family wanted to throw her a big party.

Ruben is an eleven-year-old boy from Winston-Salem who is battling Ependymoma, a brain tumor that occurs in children at a young age. Ruben has been battling his tumor for three years and needed a pick me up.

Avery's Dinosaur Room

Avery is a four-year-old boy from Clayton who has been battling Wilms Tumor for a year and a half. During this time, Avery underwent several surgeries to remove all of one kidney and partially remove the other. He also underwent several difficult rounds of chemotherapy. There was no doubt Avery needed a smile.

Back in 2013, we were thrilled to meet her and her family as they went to go see One Direction in Raleigh on her smile. Baylee has always had a giving heart. She wanted to do a holiday toy drive for her fellow patients at UNC Children’s Hospital as she knows first-hand, how hard it is to be battling during the holidays.

Suddenly, he and his family noticed changes which would be diagnosed as Childhood Onset Cerebral X-Linked Adrenoleukodystrophy. This is a progressive, life shortening disease that has Ganesh needing round the clock care.

Lexie is a 15-year-old girl from Franklinton who battles osteogenesis imperfecta. This disease cause Lexie to sustain several bone fractures during her life. She also sustained injuries in a car accident causing her to have metal rods placed in her legs. Because of this, her legs did not grow straight and is now primarily home and bed bound.

Melanie is a 16-year-old young lady from Holly Springs. At 5 months old, Melanie was diagnosed with a brain tumor called anaplastic ependymoma. While Melanie’s cancer is in remission, her treatment included 2 brain surgeries and a year and a half of experimental chemotherapy. Melanie’s vision has been affected and continues to battle seizures. We thought Melanie deserved a special night out.

Zya is a 12-year-old young lady from Roanoke, VA being treated at Duke Children’s Hospital for Hodgkin’s Disease. Prior to her diagnosis, Zya loved playing sports including volleyball. After several months of active treatment, she is now needing a stem cell treatment leaving her isolated in the bone marrow unit at Duke.

Bryce is a 10 year old boy from Raleigh that lives with a rare form of epilepsy called ESES. Bryce was diagnosed three years ago. He battles 15 seizures a day which occur when he eats and sleeps. As you can imagine, Bryce has had it so hard and was in need of a “smile.”

She received a stem cell cord blood transplant at Duke in 2014. Her family moved to North Carolina from West Virginia so they could be closer to her Doctors at Duke.

Back in April of 2014, Emma was celebrating her birthday at school in Ahoskie, NC. During the celebration, she came down with a headache. A few short hours later, they were being airlifted to Duke where they would later find out that Emma had a rare brain tumor.
