During this time, Avery underwent several surgeries to remove all of one kidney and partially remove the other. He also underwent several difficult rounds of chemotherapy. Baylee is from Richlands, NC and has been battling her brain tumor for over 7 years. Back in 2013, we were thrilled to meet her and her family as they went to go see One Direction in Raleigh on her smile. Baylee has always had a giving heart. She wanted to do a holiday toy drive for her fellow patients at UNC Children’s Hospital as she knows first-hand, how hard it is to be battling during the holidays.

This is a progressive, life shortening disease that has Ganesh needing round the clock care.

Lexie is a 15-year-old girl from Franklinton who battles osteogenesis imperfecta. This disease cause Lexie to sustain several bone fractures during her life. She also sustained injuries in a car accident causing her to have metal rods placed in her legs. Because of this, her legs did not grow straight and is now primarily home and bed bound.

Melanie's Musical Night Out

Melanie is a 16-year-old young lady from Holly Springs. At 5 months old, Melanie was diagnosed with a brain tumor called anaplastic ependymoma. While Melanie’s cancer is in remission, her treatment included 2 brain surgeries and a year and a half of experimental chemotherapy. Melanie’s vision has been affected and continues to battle seizures. We thought Melanie deserved a special night out.

Zya is a 12-year-old young lady from Roanoke, VA being treated at Duke Children’s Hospital for Hodgkin’s Disease. Prior to her diagnosis, Zya loved playing sports including volleyball. After several months of active treatment, she is now needing a stem cell treatment leaving her isolated in the bone marrow unit at Duke.

Bryce is a 10 year old boy from Raleigh that lives with a rare form of epilepsy called ESES. Bryce was diagnosed three years ago. He battles 15 seizures a day which occur when he eats and sleeps. As you can imagine, Bryce has had it so hard and was in need of a “smile.”

Jaylin is a 3 year old sweetheart from Mebane. Jaylin battles Hurler Syndrome which makes her have multiple physical challenges as well as being non-verbal. She received a stem cell cord blood transplant at Duke in 2014. Her family moved to North Carolina from West Virginia so they could be closer to her Doctors at Duke.
